Travel further down South on I-65 and you will find yourself coming through the beautiful city of Mobile, Alabama!
Mobile is known to many as the "Port City" and is also the birth place & home of Mardi Gras. When visitors come through Mobile, they take pleasure in enjoying fresh seafood and beautiful beaches!
Yet this year the beautiful "Port City" has encountered a numerous amount of homicides. I spoke with one police officer who mentioned that it's impossible to keep count of the homicides happening lately. I managed to go online to the City Of Mobile Police Department's website to look up the crime statistics thus far for the city and although it seems that this year is possibly lower than most, the crime rates which totaled all together were 3,808 as of April this year. These crimes have still managed to have a massive effect on family members who have lost loved ones to the violence.
One young man is seeking to unite the city and prove that Mobilians know how to pull together and have fun despite all of the violence.
Mario Yow, Sr (38) is a native of Mobile, Alabama and is planning a city wide event that will pull everyone together on July 2nd!
Yow whose cousin (Antonio Yow) was murdered back in May of 2015 due to gun violence has since then been busy trying to assist in the communities to stop the violence.
I had the chance to speak with Yow who informed me that he is planning a 1st ever City Wide Water Gun/Balloon Fight to unite the city of Mobile on July 2nd!
Yow is currently seeking the participation of the entire city as well as city workers from the Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire & Rescue Department to come together and join in as we make the city fun by proving that we can help end the violence!
Yow is hoping that city council and even Mayor Sandy Stimpson will join in by tossing a water balloon!
Plans are in hope to have the large event sponsored at the Mobile Fair Grounds.
Yow is striving to help make a difference in the "Port City" and is currently awaiting approval for the event from city officials! We hope that the mayor will join in to approve for the event because the "Port City" is more than just a city of violence, it is home to many and a city of love and unity!
Let's wet up the city on July 2nd & unite Mobile, Alabama!
